Vintage Furniture – Rosewood & Teak

Vintage Furniture -

Just for a change, here’s a little postette about my brother-in-law, Dan Poole of  Rosewood and Teak – Vintage Furniture.

Based in West London, Dan sources and sells collectable vintage furniture from the 1950′s & 60′s, specialising in the best of British and Danish craftsmanship and design. Most of the vintage furniture he buys are wood based incorporating solid Teak, Rosewood and Afromosia (African Teak). His expertise is primarily chairs and sideboards, but he has such an excellent eye for design that he really enjoys discovering a piece that is both beautiful to look at and a great example of such a classic genre.

What makes Dan particularly good is that he aims to acquire pieces that will retain their value, mostly mid-range and therefore avoiding the more mass produced and obvious designs. He buys a few pieces each month and prices them fairly and unlike many other dealers, he doesn’t have a shop so he’s very competitively priced.

If you’re in the market and appreciate these timeless and functional works of art, then contact Dan via his Facebook Page.

You can also visit Dan at the Midcentury Modern show at Dulwich College on 18 March 2012

Lou Smith – Baby Castings

 Baby Castings -

There’s this chap I know who lives up the road from me called Lou Smith of LouSmithMedia.

I’ve mentioned Lou on earlier posts because he occasionally works with me when I need a proper back up photographer or videographer. He’s one of those amazingly skilled and creative people that seem able to turn their hand to just about anything! The long list includes furniture maker, jeweller, T-Shirt designer, screen printer, video editor, lampshade designer, dad and tadpole hatcher!

Lou also makes exquisite Baby Castings in in a variety of metals, resins and plaster which can be mounted on a plinth and etched with names and dates. A perfect way to remember your newborn’s cute little feet or hands or as a Baby Shower gift for the proud parents. To learn more about the baby castings process, have a look here and then contact Lou Smith here.

Lou is married to the musically talented Lorraine Liyanage who runs the highly acclaimed SE22 Piano School.

Juzi – The day before yesterday

That’s the meaning behind the Swahili word Juzi.

Juzi is the fashion brand behind these funky accessories that have been handcrafted from recycled magazines and bottle tops from a cooperative in Kisumu, Western Kenya.

As a bit of product photography these chunky beads were really fun to work with. They have a lovely feel and vibrancy about them and I hope they prove to be a big success over here. Here’s a selection from the shoot.
